Arlo Hotels, the independent boutique lifestyle hotel brand with properties in Manhattan, Chicago and Miami, will make its entry into Brooklyn later this year with the opening of Arlo Williamsburg. The property will open at the site of the former Williamsburg Hotel. While the opening will not take place until this fall, Arlo Hotels has already stepped in, adding the brand’s creative and artistic trademark to the hotel’s famous Water Tower, home to some of New York City’s hottest events and parties.
The hotel has partnered with internationally recognized artist and painter, ThankYouX, to give Brooklynites and New Yorkers a taste of what’s to come as the Arlo brand makes its way into the borough. Debuting his first mural since 2021, the L.A.-based artist scaled the brick wall below the iconic Water Tower to create the 20-by-23-foot mural, “Subtle Reminders.” The mural features ThankYouX’s signature geometric cubes with vibrant abstract color tones that perfectly illuminate the hotel pool and NYC skyline.
The piece draws inspiration from the panoramic views atop the hotel: a breathtaking, all-encompassing sunset; the extensive rooftops blending into the horizon; the mighty East River; and beyond, stretching as far as the eye can see.
ThankYouX’s latest piece is an extension of one of Arlo Hotels’ three main brand pillars – Discovery – by bringing in elements of surprises, unexpected moments of delight and exceptional experiences to each guest’s stay, whether through music, wellness events, signature fortune cookies (cleverly placed for guests’ arrival) or QR art in the rooms featuring local places to visit with discounts for Arlo guests.
This isn’t the first time ThankYouX has worked with the boutique lifestyle brand. In the winter 2022, the artist exhibited his groundbreaking “STATE OF THE ART” project during Miami Art Week at Arlo Wynwood, the first hotel to open in Miami’s preeminent creative and cultural district.
Officially opening in the fall, Arlo Williamsburg will be the fourth Arlo Hotels property in New York City, joining Arlo SoHo, Arlo NoMad and Midtown. It marks Arlo Hotels’ debut in Brooklyn and its sixth hotel overall. Arlo’s other properties include the recently opened Arlo Chicago in the Midwest and Arlo Wynwood, the first-ever hotel in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood.
About Arlo Hotels
Arlo Hotels is an independent, experience-driven hotel brand, a home base for explorers and a launch pad for all things local. Easy style and friendly faces welcome guests into a community-driven environment, and intuitively designed guest rooms provide peaceful places to rest and recharge. Each location is a living room away from home, a desk while working on the road, and invites guests to travel their way, every day—with a few surprises along the way.
The brand has more hotels on the horizon, including The Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn, which will be rebranded in September 2023 as Arlo Williamsburg, and a Washington, D.C. location, opening in 2024.
ThankYouX began his artistic journey on the streets of Los Angeles, spray- painting stencils in homage to Andy Warhol. His unique aesthetic has captured the attention of the art world and earned him international acclaim.
