Eccentric, brilliant and a century ahead of his time, George Ohr is featured in the exhibition “Deliberately Distorted: The Pottery of George E. Ohr,” which will be on view through Jan. 10, 2021.

@kehindewiley at @rubellmuseum. Hats off to the c @kehindewiley at @rubellmuseum.

Hats off to the cleaning crew, look at that reflection in the floor... not a bad job by the artist either.
Only the 2nd time I’ve seen an Anslam Kiefer art Only the 2nd time I’ve seen an Anslam Kiefer artwork in person and, for the second time, utterly floored. This at @rubellmuseum in @miamiandbeaches.

This mural-sized work features sticks and old seats, charcoal and plaster. It emits a physical, haunting presence. A wasteland. Cold, harsh, unforgiving.

Kiefer, a German, references the Holocaust in his works, and that’s what I see when I look at them.

Aftermath. Pain. Suffering. Loss.

Extraordinary artistic vision.

What kind of artwork “speaks” to me? This definitely does.

Opening tonight at @visitboston’s famous Hatch S Opening tonight at @visitboston’s famous Hatch Shell running every night through Feb. 21, the multi-sensory winter illumination project, “Hatched: Breaking through the Silence.”

The illumination and sound project from nonprofit organization Esplanade Association provides a family-friendly and physically-distant celebration. Featuring a team of predominantly female-identifying artists and directors, “Hatched” brings an opportunity for underrepresented communities to “break through” and share their skills, vision and voice.

@mariafinkperc leads the effort.
Took a self-guided walking tour of American Beach, Took a self-guided walking tour of American Beach, Florida today, right down the road from where I live on @visitameliaisland. As the 1st purpose built resort for Blacks in @visitflorida and one of only around South, it is a legendary location in the story of America’s Civil Rights movement.

But time and gentrification have been hard on the historic community there. Evans Rendezvous, where Cab Calloway and Ray Charles played, is boarded up and crumbling. Duck’s Hotel and Restaurant is condemned. Feet from them are million dollar homes.

NaNa Dune remains, the tallest dune in Florida, as does Little NaNa Dune, recently acquired for conservation by @nflandtrust. To support NFLT’s acquisition of Little NaNa, visit its website and click the link to “donate” for the “Amelia Forever” campaign.

American Beach is rich in history, wildlife and possibility. Visit. Think. Imagine.

The bits and pieces of refuse the artist applies to make his work creates a pointillist effect. I dig pointillism and color and this piece of found object artwork.

Boafo may be the hottest name in contemporary art. One look at his paintings and you’ll see why.

Fascinating, swirling surfaces where the “hand” - and fingers - of the artist are visible everywhere, drawing you in, mesmerizing, looking as intently at you as you are it.

Boafo worked as the Rubell’s artist-in-residence in 2019 and a handiful of his instantly iconic pictures are on view there now. A rare treat. With his market soaring and collectors gobbling them up, his work may be priced out of museums before they can acquire.
