Upon moving to Kansas as a young man, Mitchell visited @fortscottnps Kansas where he learned Kansas was the first state to recruit, train and deploy Black soldiers during the Civil War. The knowledge inspired a series of paintings in 1989, a theme he picked back up following the police murder of George Floyd.

Stunning floor-to-ceiling painting, at least 30 ft long, 15 ft high at @elespacio23. Look past figures in foreground to imagery in background.

Wish I’d had more time to spend absorbing this piece in @miamiandbeaches.
Anyone else looking forward to summer? Anyone else looking forward to summer?
Tears. In the gallery at @herronschool looking at Tears.

In the gallery at @herronschool looking at @sigh_o’s ‘Elijah McClain’ with tears in my eyes.

That is the power of art.
Hope everyone is surviving the winter weather. We’re managing in @visitflorida @miamiandbeaches.

This photo from a display in @artdecomuseummb.

The text reads, “This curious ensemble has a Miami Beach cold wave note.”
Places I’ve missed visiting most during COVID: 1 Places I’ve missed visiting most during COVID:
1. NYC
1a. New Orleans

To remedy that in some small way I treated myself to this tasty muffuletta at @lagniappe_restaurant on @visitameliaisland.

Honorable mention “missing yous” go to Paris and Santa Fe.
Bernard Williams, ‘Black Cowboy - Bill Pickett’ (1995) at @eiteljorgmuseum in @visitindy.

Love the color, the impasto, the subject.

Whenever I go to Indy, a trip to Eiteljorg is always on my “to-do” list.
