Savannah Center for Photography opening June 26, 2026
The Savannah Center for Photography opens its doors to the public on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 5 to 9 pm at 2205 Price Street in Savannah, Georgia. The opening marks the debut of Savannah’s first dedicated nonprofit community darkroom, gallery, and photography workshop space.
Opening night will feature “SCP Presents,” an exhibition of original work by local photographers available for purchase to benefit the new 501(c)(3) organization. Guests can tour the newly equipped black-and-white darkroom and sign up for SCP’s membership program, which ranges from annual support tiers to monthly studio memberships providing hands-on facility access.
Admission is free and open to the public.
“Savannah has a deep tradition of creativity and visual culture, and we believe it’s long overdue for a space dedicated entirely to the craft of photography,” Joshua Yates, Board Chair and Founder, Savannah Center for Photography, said. “This is a place for professionals, hobbyists, people who are just getting started, and anyone who simply appreciates the photographic arts.”
SCP’s founding board brings together an exceptional range of experience in fine art photography, academia, business, and arts administration:
● Steve Bliss (Board Member): Professor Emeritus of Photography at SCAD with a 50-year career, with work held in museum collections nationally and internationally.
● Erin Dunn (Board Member): Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Savannah’s Telfair Museums and co-founder of Gallery 2424.
● Joshua Lindsey (Board Member): Co-founder of the Savannah Photo Club and Shade Magazine, whose monthly events engage over 100 local creatives.
● Caitie Moore (Secretary): Photographer and arts administrator with over a decade of institutional experience, including FRONT International and the Society for Photographic Education.
● Parker Stewart (Treasurer): A Savannah-based fine art photographer whose solo exhibition, Tideland, was presented at the Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center in 2025.
● Joshua Yates (Founder & Board Chair): A photographer whose work has been exhibited nationally, he brings leadership experience to the organization as the co-founder of Green Truck Pub and a past board member for the Forsyth Farmers’ Market.
