‘Masters of Contemporary Indigenous Pottery’ at King Galleries Scottsdale
King Galleries in Scottsdale presents Masters of Contemporary Indigenous Pottery, a special exhibition celebrating the vitality, innovation, and enduring traditions of ceramic art from the leading indigenous artists working in this medium today. Opening Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 6 to 8pm, the exhibition is set to coincide with the annual Heard Indian Market at Heard Museum and the Native Art Walk in Old Town Scottsdale, welcoming collectors and art enthusiasts to a special exhibition of the top contemporary Native ceramic artists working today.
This unique exhibition brings together an exceptional group of contemporary artists whose work reflects generations of knowledge while pushing the boundaries of form, surface and materials.
“King Galleries is the center for contemporary Native pottery,” says Charles King, Owner of the gallery. “The gallery will have new works by over ten potters, each representing various styles and artistic visions. Pottery has become an important voice in Native art and these artists are true visionaries, creating the most dynamic works each year.”
Featured artists include Russell Sanchez, Tammy Garcia, Sergio Lugo, Autumn Borts-Medlock, Jared Tso, Jeff Suina, Daniel Begay, Kwani Povi Winder, Stephanie Tafoya, Les Namingha, Dolores Curran, Mavasta Honyouti, and more.
New works will be on view throughout the gallery. While not all artists will be present, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience a wide range of styles—from highly polished blackware and carved vessels to contemporary interpretations that honor ancestral methods while embracing modern design. The exhibition includes master artists such as Russell Sanchez and Tammy Garcia alongside emerging talent such as Jared Tso and Jeff Suina.
Stephanie Tafoya, and Sergio Lugo and Daniel Begay are all part of the latest generation of pueblo potters, all of whom come from important historic families active in the market for generations. Lugo is the son of noted potter Nancy Youngblood and the great-grandson of Margaret Tafoya. Stephanie is the great granddaughter of Tafoya.
Rooted in centuries-old native traditions, the works in this exhibition exemplify both technical mastery and creative evolution of the medium. Masters of Contemporary Indigenous Pottery highlights how today’s leading artists continue to carry forward cultural legacy while shaping the future of Native ceramic art.
Charles King operates two galleries, one in Old Town Scottsdale (7077 E Main Street #20) and one just off the historic plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico (130 Lincoln Ave). King has authored four books on pueblo pottery, including those on Margaret Tafoya, Tony Da and Virgil Ortiz.
