Design and branding agency frenchCALIFORNIA has unveiled a new project with gallery Gabriel & Guillaume connecting high end design, fine art and one of New York’s most prestigious addresses. The project is a model unit and collectible design exhibition within the Steinway Tower in New York City in unit 17S on 111 West 57th Street. A registered historic and cultural landmark, the building first opened its doors in 1925 to a performance from the NY Philharmonic. An adjacent tower by SHoP Architects and Bill Sofield has just been completed. Both are perfectly centered on Central Park with commanding views of the Park and surrounds.
frenchCALIFORNIA was founded by Guillaume Coutheillas who is known for curating design and art exhibitions within model apartments as a way to help galleries find new spaces, and to help developers sell their listings. Gabriel & Guillaume is a traveling gallery with roots in Beirut and Paris co-founded by Nancy Gabriel and Guillaume Excoffier.
For the space, frenchCALIFORNIA features an array of antique, mid-century and contemporary collectible design pieces including work by Jean Royère, Jose Zanine Caldas, Ettore Sottsass, Ico Parisi and more. In addition, a contemporary art collection curated by Cueto Art Advisory features works by Louise Nevelson, Pablo Picasso, George Condo and Robert Mapplethorpe.
The model unit/exhibition is scheduled to be open for visits by appointment through Spring 2022, however, the apartment itself is on the market and if it were to sell, the exhibition would move to another unit.
Instant icons of the New York skyline, anyone interested in architecture, design, art or real estate should make time to visit the new building… for the views alone!
